Through creative use of surfacing materials in sport, landscaping and general recreational play, elements of the curriculum and children’s development can be supported.
Inclusion of letters, numbers, shapes and contours within the surfacing contribute to language, literacy, numeracy, problem solving and reasoning skills.
By zoning areas in different colours and adding textures and shapes we can create different ‘moods’ within an area. Earth colours create a natural environment and bright colours stimulate vibrant play. ‘Themed’ shapes and colours can increase creative play and a child's understanding of the world.
