Case Study

Full size synthetic sports pitches

This 12,000 m² area was originally hard porous and was converted to artificial turf over 11 years ago. In 2008 after years of heavy use, the surfaces were ready for replacement. Due to increased commercial pressure and local market forces the school had to carefully consider the layout of the pitches, revenue generation per pitch and how they would refurbish their facility to give the best return on their investment.

The school employed S&C Slatter to re-surface one full pitch with the same type of sand-filled carpet that had previously served them well, and then to divide the other pitch into four highly marketable 'specialist' soccer pitches, using 3G technology and the proven existing sub-base.

A key element of the contract was the replacement of the perimeter fencing and installation of new dividing fences to create the four pitches. The increased number of rentable facilities and the investment in quality and comfort has ensured that the school can increase their revenue.

On completion of the project the school signed a monthly maintenance contract with us to keep the facility in perfect condition.

We are very pleased with the outcome of this refurbishment project. Having S&C Slatter replace the fencing and install the divisions at the same time as replacing the surface made perfect sense. It minimised disruption to the sub-structure and so saved money. They have operated in a highly professional manner, and delivered to us what we believe to be a unique facility in our area.

Point of Interest – The original construction was installed in 1997. The project in 2008 was to replace the old VHAF® NottsSward sand filled surface with a replacement high quality multi purpose synthetic grass to one pitch and a new 3rd Generation football surface to the second pitch. The existing Sand Envelope System® & dynamic base construction has proven to last the life of 2 carpets at sites throughout the UK providing customers with a system that can be reused rather than replaced and reduce the costs of refurbishment in comparison to other performance layers and shock-pads.
