Synthetic Turf Pitch
5,000m² of sand-dressed artificial turf and a 4 bay fully enclosed cricket coaching area. This project is located amongst picturesque woodland therefore the layout, landscaping and design had to be considerate of existing trees. Excavations from the site have been used to form a viewing embankment in keeping with the site's existing contoured surrounds.
- Synthetic Turf Pitch (STP) Facility – 89 x 49m plus 2no. 10.0m x 3.0m goal alcove
- Non Turf Cricket Facility – 4 bay practice facility with full batting and bowling ends
- STP System – Dynamic granular stone base; Sand Envelope System® performance control layer; Sand Dressed Tufted Manufactured Synthetic Grass
- Other STP Features – Rigid panel fencing with internal timber kickboard; New macadam surfaced access path
- Built – Spring 2009
- Build Cost – £480,000 + VAT
- Point Benefits – Enhanced and versatile space for PE and sports development; High quality hockey surface for improved coaching and practice; Robust and durable facility for external sports and community groups; Easy maintenance
- Point of Interest – The footprint was constrained by site boundaries to 3 sides and a mature Chestnut Tree with an associated tree protection order (TPO) to the open aspect. The design had to to maximise the space available without ingressing into the TPO and as it was within a conservation area, fit into the natural surroundings. The addition of the 4 bay cricket practice facility means the school has become a hub for the Dorset County Cricket Elite Performance Programme.
