Artificial turf pitches for rugby are now an accepted alternative to the natural grass pitches that have traditionally tended to either be wet and muddy or hard and frozen, and on which generations have had to learn the game, train and play competitively.
Technological advances in artificial turf design and manufacturing, as evidenced by the latest 3G pitch systems, now consistently deliver a level of performance comparable with that of a well-maintained top quality natural grass pitch. Equally, they offer excellent player protection and comfort and a multi-game accessibility and durability that traditional surfaces just cannot match.
S&C Slatter is an acknowledged expert provider of 3G artificial turf rugby training and match play pitches for schools, clubs and sports centres. These can be either rugby specific or facilities on which another sport is played – invariably football. Our expertise and experience coupled with an internationally recognised product range of surfaces allows us to design and construct pitch facilities with a certified performance which achieves the World Rugby Regulation 22 performance standard.
We believe that as a builder of artificial turf rugby pitches, it’s simply not enough to have a good quality rugby surfacing product: you have to have the skills and experience to deliver this in a project which returns targetted and sustainable benefits for the client.
And so, at S&C Slatter, when developing specifications and plans for a new artificial turf pitch, you will see us placing as much emphasis and importance on how a project is structured and managed, as on the design and construction elements of the proposed facility.
We also set great store by creating a spirit of partnership with our clients, ensuring that each part of the process is communicated and understood as it progresses. Feedback from previous projects confirms that this approach is appreciated by our customers and really helps to deliver on plan.

The exclusive manufacturing process, known as PPG – Polymer, Process, Geometry – in essence exerts a key control over the quality of the end product, guaranteeing consistently high whole life performance and return on investment.
The fibres used in our 3G surfaces for rugby are designed to provide resilience, durability and comfort as well as a consistently high playing performance throughout the practical life of the pitch. These fibres are used in various designs and configurations which offer extended benefits such as reduced ‘splash’, enhanced player interaction, outstanding aesthetics.
42mm, 60mm and 65mm pile depths depending on standard of play and whether other sports to be accommodated. An infill of granulated rubber with a base layer of kiln-dried sand helps to keep the pile vertical and retain optimal drainage levels, as well providing the necessary level of impact absorption.
